Reuse-A-Shoe

The Johnson County Solid Waste Management District collects used shoes to keep them from going to a landfill, where they may spend more than 200 years before decomposing, then sends them for reuse to individuals in Third World Countries. Collection will take place in the Fall of 2009. Most elementary, middle, and high schools in the county collect shoes for the two-week period, as well as the District office in Franklin, Sam's Club in Greenwood, and the Greenwood City Building.

All shoes are acceptable except roller blades/skates, overly worn shoes, slippers, snow boots, or shoes with over 2-inch heels. Shoes will not be accepted prior to the collection dates.  If you have any questions, call the District at 738-2546
