WHAT'S NEW:

 

 IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING BATTERY RECYCLING:  Due to recent changes in US DOT shipping regulations, the Johnson County Solid Waste Management District will no longer accept non-rechargeable batteries at any collection location throughout the county.  This includes all non-rechargeable household batteries, such as alkaline AA, AAA, C, D, 9 volt, and button batteries.  Alkaline batteries can be safely deposited in your regular trash.  For additional information see http://www.grinningplanet.com/2004/12-21/battery-recycling-article.htm

 

The District will continue to accept rechargeable batteries at the District office only.  This includes rechargeable household batteries, power tool batteries, Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd), Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH), Lithium Ion (Li-ion), Nickel Zinc (Ni-Zn) or Lead (pb) under 2 lbs.

THE DISTRICT HAS MOVED: 

The Johnson County Solid Waste Management District office, Creative Resources, and the Kwik Drop recycling containers are now located at 900 Arvin Rd., Suite A, Franklin (See directions below).

  

The recycling containers are located in the lot just northwest (behind) of the office building.  Residents may continue to recycle #1-#7 plastics; steel food cans; aluminum beverage cans; clear, brown and green glass bottles and jars; newspaper, catalogs, magazines, phone books, junk mail, cardboard, and chipboard/paperboard.  Paper and cardboard must be separated from other recyclables and placed in separate containers.  Flatten all cardboard/paperboard before placing in the corresponding green and yellow containers.  Steel, aluminum, plastic, and glass may be deposited in the long gray recycling container.

 The Johnson County Solid Waste Management District accepts the following items at the District office:     

*Mercury thermometers, thermostats, liquid mercury

*Old or expired Non-controlled prescription medication

*Old or expired over the counter medications

*Cell phones with cords and chargers

*PDA's or Blackberry devices

* MP3 players or IPods

*Printer ink cartridges

 

All items are properly recycled or safely disposed.
